Climbing Mount Kenya is a fantastic and challenging experience, o ering stunning views,
diverse landscapes, and a rich variety of wildlife. The mountain has two main peaks: Batian
Peak (5,199 meters), the highest point, and Nelion Peak (5,188 meters). However, many
climbers aim for Point Lenana (4,985 meters), which is the third highest point and accessible
via a trekking route
Day 1: Arrival in Nairobi & Transfer to Naro Moru
Arrival: You will arrive in Nairobi, the capital city of Kenya, and meet your guide and trekking
team.
Transfer: After meeting with your team, you will be driven from Nairobi to Naro Moru (around
a 3-4 hour drive).
Overnight: Stay overnight at a lodge or hotel in Naro Moru for a rest before beginning the trek
the next day. You will have an opportunity for a gear check and final preparations.
Day 2: Naro Moru Gate to Met Station (3,050m)
Morning: After an early breakfast, you’ll drive to the Naro Moru Gate (2,400m), where your
trek begins.
Trekking: The first day of trekking will take you through rainforest and moorland zones. The
trail is relatively easy, but the altitude will gradually increase.
Trekking time: 4-5 hours.
Altitude: 2,400m at Naro Moru Gate to 3,050m at Met Station.
Overnight: Stay at Met Station where you will rest. This is the first campsite along the route,
and the area is known for its beautiful scenery and rich biodiversity.
Day 3: Met Station to Mackinder’s Camp (4,200m)
Morning: After breakfast, you’ll begin the ascent towards Mackinder’s Camp. The terrain
becomes more rugged as you move from the moorland to alpine vegetation.
Trekking: The path takes you through rocky ridges and o ers stunning views of the
surrounding valleys and peaks. The ascent becomes steeper, but the trekking time is
moderate to help with acclimatization.
Trekking time: 5-7 hours.
Altitude: 3,050m at Met Station to 4,200m at Mackinder’s Camp.
Overnight: Spend the night at Mackinder’s Camp, which is located in an exposed alpine zone.
It’s important to rest here to allow for proper acclimatization before the summit push.
Day 4: Mackinder’s Camp to Point Lenana (4,985m) & Descent to Met Station
Midnight Departure: After an early dinner and some rest, you will begin your summit attempt
to Point Lenana. The climb is challenging and will be done in the early morning hours (around
2:00 AM) to ensure that you reach the summit for sunrise.
Trekking time: 4-5 hours to the summit.
Summit: Point Lenana (4,985m) – The third highest peak of Mount Kenya, o ering panoramic
views of the surrounding valleys, peaks, and glaciers.
Descent to Met Station: After reaching Point Lenana, you’ll take photos, celebrate your
achievement, and then begin your descent back to Met Station.
Descent time: 3-4 hours back to Met Station.
Overnight: Stay again at Met Station for a well-deserved rest after the summit attempt.
Day 5: Met Station to Naro Moru Gate & Return to Nairobi
Morning: After a hearty breakfast, you’ll descend through the rainforests back to Naro Moru
Gate.
Trekking time: 4-5 hours.
Altitude: 3,050m at Met Station to 2,400m at Naro Moru Gate.
Departure: Once you arrive at Naro Moru Gate, you will meet your driver and be transferred
back to Nairobi for your return journey or onward travel.
End of Trek: Arrival in Nairobi, where you can rest or continue with your plans
